Standard Manways, Openings and Connections are available for either head or cylinder mounting, In addition, Lee engineers are experienced in the design and the application of special manways and openings for pressure or vacuum vessels. Sanitary or ASA type connections can be added to any unit in any orientation.
Covers designed for pressure or vacuum applications are available for all Lee tanks. The cover can be a bolt-on type, quick-release style, or welded directly to the cylinder. One-piece or hinged-style removable covers are also available.
Standard Lee tanks have open tops with a sanitary flanged rim. Solid stainless steel or angle style rims are also available.
Three styles of bottoms are offered as options for Lee tanks. Each style offers unique advantages for various processing applications:
- Pitched
-- offers excellent drainage for liquids and places the outlet on a horizontal axis.
- Dished - offers center draining for more viscous products. Reverse dished bottoms are also available.
- Cone - ideal for viscous or semi-solid materials. The standard cone bottom angle is 120 Degrees, but can be varied to suit process or product requirements.
Mountings can be furnished for either portable or stationary type agitators. Portable agitators are nozzle or bracket mounted. Stationary agitators can be bridge or dome mounted. Lee offers a full line of agitation from scraped-surface single-motion to double-motion with high-shear.
Diameter and depth of tank cylinder can vary to correspond to size and process requirements. The standard finish is #4 inside and out. Finishes from mill finish through the exclusive Lee Super #7 (2-4 Ra) are also available as well as electropolishing.
Open or "Uniflow" coil style heat transfer jackets are available for all Lee tanks. The open style jacket is applicable to smaller tanks and low pressure requirements. Lee's "Uniflow" coil jacket is ideal for all heating and cooling media and can be used in high- or low-pressure applications. Lee "Uniflow" jackets can be applied to flat, dished, or cone bottoms. Insulation and stainless steel sheathing can be installed over any jacket.
Various types of outlets are available for Lee tanks. All outlet pipes are stainless steel with optional I.P.S. , sanitary Acme thread, ASA flange, or sanitary quick clamp. Lee manufactures sanitary flush type outlet valves which are ideal tank outlets.
Stainless steel pipe legs are standard on all tank styles. The legs can be provided with adjustable feet, casters or load cell flanges.
Uniflow Jacketed Tanks
Standard Features
Reduced Batch Processing Time
Increased Production Capacity
Uniform Thermal Flow
Hot/Cold Spots Eliminated
Increased Heat Transfer Area
Controlled Batch Processing
Through Zones
Ability to Heat and Cool in Same Vessel
Uniflow Jacketed Tanks from Process Systems and Equipment can decrease the heating/cooling time by providing uniform thermal flow in an increased heat transfer area. Due to the unique coil pattern of the Uniflow jacket, isolated hot spots are completely eliminated. This exclusive feature insures optimum heat transfer throughout the entire jacket area. High fluid velocities keep fouling and corrosion to a minimum; however, the jacket can be chemically cleaned. The Uniflow jacket consists of a unique 120 Degree radius continuous coil which is automatically formed and welded (full penetration) to the vessel surface. This creates an exceptionally strong, distortion-free metal bond and decreases shell thickness. The 120 Degree radius configuration of the Uniflow coil eliminates unjacketed areas between coils. This, in turn, provides a greater heat transfer area than comparable channel wall or half pipe jackets. Because Uniflow jacketed tanks are zoned, batch processing can be easily controlled. For example, if a processor needs to run a 500 gallon batch in a 1000 gallon vessel, the top zone can be turned off and the vessel will be heated only to the 500 gallon level. This results in substantial energy savings and prevents product burn-on during partial batch runs. Uniflow jacketed tanks range in size from 25 to 10,000 gallons with a maximum working pressure of 250 PSIG. They are available with a choice of dished, pitched, or cone-shaped bottoms. All Uniflow jacketed tanks can be supplied with insulation sheaths and a number of scraped-surface agitator designs to further increase efficiency and heat transfer.
Heat Transfer Comparison
In an application which required a 1500 gallon batch of product to be steam heated from 60 Degrees Fahrenheit to 180 Degrees Fahrenheit, held for five minutes, then cooled (using 45 Degrees Fahrenheit water) to 80 Degrees Fahrenheit, the following results were obtained. The standard dimple, and channel wall jacketed vessels required 105, 102, and 104 minutes respectively to complete the process. The Uniflow jacketed vessel required only 67 minutes to complete the process. By comparison, this is a 36 Percent reduction in total processing time. Therefore, in the same time that it would take to run three batches in a standard, dimple, or channel wall jacketed vessel, 4 batches could be run in a Uniflow jacketed vessel. (see chart for specific heating and cooling times.)
